Arithmetic of Complex Numbers

With this applet you can learn about complex numbers, how to add, subtract, multiply and divide them, find their real and imaginary parts and their conjugates.

[Applet - arithmetic of complex numbers]

The main part of this screen is an Argand diagram of the complex plane. Complex numbers can be represented by points on that plane. The horizontal axis is the real axis, and the vertical axis is the imaginary axis.
You can move the points representing the complex numbers z1 and z2 by clicking and dragging with your mouse.

The numbers are written at the bottom left in Cartesian form, and at the bottom right in Modulus-Argument form. You can chose different operations to perform on z1 and z2 from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.
Play around! There is a great deal to learn here, but you should quickly develop a feel for the behaviour of complex numbers.
